Filters With Lightroom and Photoshop the need for filters is greatly reduced, but not eliminated entirely, at least not yet. The use of filters and high dynamic range (HDR) in post production can work wonders. I occasionally use neutral density gradient filters for landscape work. This is mainly on windy days with fast moving clouds where HDR is not possible and if the scene is of high contrast. I am sure people more talented than I can get the same effect with Photoshop, but I find it easier to use these filters. I also use circular polarizer to take reflections out of water since I am unaware of a way to do this in post production. My most used filter is a 10 stop filter that allows for much creativity in scenes with stationary and moving objects. The filters and filter holder I use are from Lee and other than occasionally being difficult to find, I have been satisfied with the performance.
